I have taken a number of steps to confirm that the problem source is the 10.4.9 update, including re-installing 10.4.0 from DVD and then running capture tests before and after re-installing the 10.4.9 software update.
Installing the 10.4.9 Update on my eMac 1.42ghz G4 system essentially broke Final Cut's video capture capabilities, showing the same failures with both my FC 4.5 HD and FC Express 2.0 versions of the program. Playback is through same camera is was recorded on. Was it recorded using another camera in a non-DV format? I buy bulk so this was one in a box of 5 that is was in a case of 50 boxes.Īre you using the same camera as the playback device?ĭoes it work if you use another computer? Is there anything special about the 'difficult' tape? What software versions of FCP, OSX and QT are you running and have you updated any of them recently? However, the other problems I am having are software related and does not involve the camera. If it is hardware problems, then I guess it is just coincidental that FCP is just now presenting problems. That I did and now I am experiencing problems I did not have before. Apple instructed me to dump the preferences and start from scratch. The original problem (discussed in another thread) was one where the video is skewed inward on the lower right corner. More likely you updated some part of your system or are having other hardware issues. When not connected it plays back on the camera with no stopping.ĭumping preferences usually does not cause problems. I am having problems only on this tape and when connected. Tried other fire wire cable and no problem. If I switch to just plain capture using non controllable device, I have the same issue except the tape keeps playing but FCP stops capturing. Using default capture preset of 48 khz 16 bit, connect fire wire and video capture randomly stops stating it has lost connection or is missing capture data. Video plays back fine when not connected via firewire to G4 dual 867 with 2 GB Ram.
If you "Create new", you create a different text box which enables you to have many textboxes with all different content.Video capture stops when connected to FCP using fire wireĬaptured video using Sony VX2000 using 48 khz and 16 bit audio stereo mode. With "Add existing" you create a reference to an existing text box, which enables you to have the same text box in multiple scenes. Usually, if you pull the borders to resize, aspect ratio is Add additional text boxes with the "Create new" option, not with the "Add existing" Option. If you stretch a source, the image becomes distored, because you enlarge or shrink it vertically differently than horizontally.
Keep an eye on the aspect ratio: fit is ok, because you keep the aspect ratio, but stretching isn't. This will downscale the image with no quality lost. In the scenes where you want the source smaller, resize the the frame so it has the desired smaller resolution. This is probably the highest resolution the device supports. To keep quality high, go to the scene where you want the source largest and set the desired best resolution in the device settings. I assume you want your capture device source in some scene larger, and in some other scene smaller.
